Joining Phoenix

The Company of The Phoenix welcomes new members of all ages, experience and backgrounds.

If you are have seen us, or have heard of us from someone else, and are interested in joining, or simply learning more about what we do, the first step is to come to one of our training sessions.

We train on the first and third Sundays of the month (except for weekends where we are performing - see the Event Calendar), at Marshall Road State School, Kurt Street, Holland Park West, from 2.30pm until 5.00pm.

At the training session, you can meet the other members, see more of what we do, and ask any questions you may have about the group. If we seem to be what you are looking for you wish to join us.

Our membership fees are currently $17 for single memberships and $20 for family memberships, plus QLHF Insurance($18 per person over 16). Membership is for the calendar year (or part thereof).

New members are immediately welcome to participate in group activities, however they cannot perform publicly with us until they have a basic costume and accessories. New members will be given a resource kit which explains the group and its objectives, as well as information on what comprises their basic outfit. Other group members are more than happy to assist, although obviously around the performance season their time may be limited as they finalise their own equipment for shows.

As mentioned in the section about the group, we are very focused on authenticity, and new members will be required to research their costumes and personae as much as any other member - if you want a 'fantasy medieval' costume we are probably not the right group for you. Also you can not be a prince/princess of some country, as they were fairly well known and would not be thumping around Europe with riff-raff like us. No samurai's either...

Members are welcome to participate in as many group activities as they wish - ladies can also do archery, archers can fight, fighters can sing and everybody dances. We are a very open group, and all members are involved in making decisions regarding the group's direction and performances.
